Situation

Henk van den Berg started building and selling skelters in 1985 at the age of 15. Blue in colour and with red wheels is the design that started it all.

Today, many different types and sizes of products have been added. Many products are relatively large and heavy, so the shipping process involves more than the average shipment to a consumer. Sending freights to consumers is a different ballgame, so there was a need for a transport partner that could handle this in a reliable, safe and punctual manner. BERG sees the shipping process as a crucial part of the customer experience, making a good logistics partner an essential link in the customer journey.

"Because we started working with GLS on how to deliver Freight shipments to our customers in the best possible way, we now have a great Freight B2C delivery service in place. We had the requirement of making a delivery appointment with the consumer beforehand. Making a delivery appointment with a consumer for Freight shipments was new for GLS, but we are very happy that they have been so proactive in thinking about this and have been able to set this up so well,’ says Hans Thomassen, Manager Logistics at BERG. ’GLS makes an appointment with the consumer by e-mail or phone for a desired delivery time, which allows us to deliver our products - despite their large volume - directly."

"Initially we were curious how this new form of delivery would work out for us and GLS, but in hindsight we can say that we have definitely been positively surprised by this so far! Because GLS always makes a delivery appointment and only starts driving once that appointment is made, it is almost never the case that a second delivery attempt is needed. As a result, delivery almost always runs smoothly and our consumer service receives few if any complaints about the delivery. At the bottom line, this saves a lot of time and therefore money."
